Now that we have introduced ourselves, it is time to say goodbye !

I know, that is a weird title.  But we are saying goodbye to our old location.

During this summer, we plan on moving to a new location in Barrhead.

So maybe, as a way of closing off a 15 year old chapter, we will take a trip back in time and enjoy some fond memories.

Our very first crop were about 4000 poinsettias.  Not an easy job if you have never done this before.  But somehow they turned out okay because we kept doing this for the coming Christmas seasons.  For Koen it was quite interesting to start selling these plants in English !

Having your own sign displayed in front of your store, gives you a very proud feeling.

Doing our own seeding of bedding plants proved to be harder than it looked.  But over the years the little seed bar we started with, was replaced by more fancier seeders.

Our winning gingerbread house in 2012

We have grown some pretty nice hang baskets these past years.

Our "setup" to bring the town baskets where they have to be hung up.

Here is our stop for our first "historical look-back".  We need to dig in the old shoe box and find some pictures where we were still young !

Stay tuned.

Let us introduce ourselves to you !

There is a first for everything and I guess this is a first one for us.  Starting a blog sounds very exciting and it is certainly with a great enthusiasm that we are going to start this.

"Welcome to our blog" as a good host would welcome their guests.

De Herdt Gardens is a family operated greenhouse, run by Koen and Inge De Herdt.  Most of you will see that this is not a typical Canadian name.  We moved to Canada from Belgium in 1998.  Packed with lots of luggage and 3 children we came to Barrhead to make a fresh start.

It is here in Barrhead where we found a business named Southside Greenhouse.  For many years we have upgraded this greenhouse to what it is today.  A beautiful garden center that has won the "Pillar of business" award in 2013.
It was this year, that we had a name change to:  De Herdt Gardens.

But enough words written for a first blog.  Let us introduce you to the many things our garden center has to offer you.  Beside many bedding plants, trees, perennials and shrubs, you will find gift ware and garden decoration.
